Honouring Our Local Veterans in Owen Sound

Nine Canadian Armed Forces veterans were recognized for their service at the 18th annual Honouring Our Local Veterans event in Owen Sound Sunday. About 200 friends, family and dignitaries attended the ceremony.

Among the veterans honoured was Christopher Kemp of Port Elgin who served in Korea.

"I'm so grateful for people showing interest and support for veterans.   It's a beautiful gesture," said Kemp.

Also honoured was Michael Boudrais. He spent 33 years in the Canadian Armed forces. Boudrais said the event is special because it honours all veterans.

"I'm humbled. It's also an honour in that we get to be recognized as a whole, all veterans, not just the ones that are being recognized today but the ones for the future, the ones from the past," said Boudrais.

The veterans honoured were presented with plaques recognizing their service to Canada at the ceremony put on by Owen Sound's Billy Bishop Home and Museum.

The other seven recognized were John Doherty, Shane Hotchkiss, Thomas Munn, Ron O'Donoughue, Stuart Peacock, Cy Simpson and John Smith.
