Huron County Council With New Identity After Municipal Elections

There will be ten new faces at Huron County council next month.

Ben Van Deipenbeek of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, Morris-Turnberry's Paul Gowing, Goderich's Jim Donnelly and Howick's Art Versteeg are retiring.

Joe Steffler is leaving because Huron East has done away with an elected Deputy Mayor.

Tyler Hessel of Bluewater, Kevin Morrison of Goderich, North Huron's Neil Vincent and Maureen Cole and Dave Frayne of South Huron were defeated in Monday's election.

County Warden Jim Ginn says some fresh faces can be a good thing but the change won't as dramatic as it appears because John Grace of Goderich, Paul Klopp in Bluewater, and Jim Dietrich in South Huron have been on county council in the past.

Ginn also suggests the turnover at the county level is typically higher than at municipal councils because county councillors tend to have put in more years than councillors at the municipal level and are more likely to retire after a long career.
