Paper ballots in South Bruce Peninsula, Arran-Elderslie, Chatsworth win out

While a voting service left many municipalities handcuffed in the 2018 Municipal Election, a trio of municipalities in Bruce and Grey made it through election night.

Janice Jackson won another term garnering 3,795 votes to outpace her four competitors handily.

Jay Kirkland is the deputy mayor and the three councillors are Terry Bell, Kathy Durst and Paul McKenzie.

In Chatsworth, results came a little later but they made it.

Scott Mackey had been acclaimed mayor and Brian Gamble acclaimed as deputy mayor.

But the councillors had to be elected.

Shawn Greig, Diana Rae and Elizabeth Thompson were voted in.

In Arran-Elderslie, challenger Steve Hammell earned the win in the mayor's race over Paul Eagleson by 968 votes.

Mark Davis won the deputy mayor's race.

As for the councillors, Doug Bell (Chesley), Brian Dudgeon (Elderslie), Melissa Kanmacher (Paisley) and Ryan Greig (Tara), will serve through the next four years.

Youth volunteers practice coastal conservation

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
