Sterilization equipment is a key component to any operating room and for the Clinton Hosipital Foundation, $40,000 is the goal for some new gear.
The foundation is part of the CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon on Saturday, October 20.
Mary Cardinal is the Vice-President of People and Chief Quality Executive of the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance.
"All of the equipment and instruments, after they are used on patients, are then cleaned by hand, cleaned in a washer, then inspected. They are assembled into procedure trays, wrapped and then sterilized."
Cardinal says that without the process they would not be able to use their operating room.
"This particular process brings all our equipment and instruments that we use for patient care to the standard that we use in the operating room. Without this process we would not be able to use our operating room."
Cardinal adds she is happy with the support the hospital gets from the community.
"We are very fortunate here at Clinton to have enjoyed tremendous community support since Clinton Hospital Foundation joined the Radiothon in 2002. And to date we have raised over $482,000 for the hospital through the various Radiothon campaigns," added Cardinal.
