Well-known Teeswater doctor retiring, new doctor moving in

There are significant healthcare changes in Wingham and Teeswater.

After serving her patients for 38 years, Dr. Marie Gear will begin her retirement on December 1.

Dr. Gear has practised many roles throughout her career including primary care, inpatient care, obstetrics, emergency medicine, oncology, anesthesia, surgical assist, as well as long-term care.

She was the Wingham & District Hospital’s chief of staff for 13 years and served on almost every hospital committee and the hospital board.

Patients of Dr. Gear will be in very capable hands.Dr. Regina Mbuva will be taking over the Teeswater clinic. Dr. Mbuva is a graduate of the University of Nairobi and has practised on Canada’s east coast for eight years, and most recently in Northern Ontario for the past seven years.

Dr. Mbuva will be practising primary care in the Teeswater clinic, seeing inpatients and working in the emergency department at the Wingham & District Hospital.

Youth volunteers practice coastal conservation

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
