Human trafficking in rural Ontario is the subject of a series of presentations in Huron County that start Wednesday night at the high school in Wingham.
The Huron Youth Justice Committee is trying to help local residents gain a better understanding of what human trafficking is, how it can be spotted, and how the community can support victims and families.
Members from Victim Services Huron County, Huron County Health Unit, Rural Response for Healthy Children and the OPP will be part of the presentations.
The first one starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday night at F.E. Madill Secondary School in Wingham.
A second presentation is scheduled for next Wednesday at South Huron Secondary School in Exeter, also at 7 p.m. A third presentation will be held at the Goderich District Collegiate Institute on Wednesday, October 24, also at 7 p.m.
These presentations are open to everyone, with a focus geared toward families and caregivers.
Human trafficking involves the recruitment, transportation or harbouring of someone for the purposes of exploitation, typically in the sex industry or for forced labour.
