Huron Bruce MPP promises to protect agriculture interests

Huron Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson said local residents can be assured that she will fight for their interests at Queen's Park in light of the new United States Mexico Canada Agreement.

Thompson said she's concerned about the impact of the new deal on the province's agricultural sectors, and added agriculture is the backbone of the local economy.

She said federal funds must be used to compensate dairy farmers for the reported concessions on Class 7 milk and access to Ontario’s dairy market.

She said the deal cannot leave farmers behind, and she doesn't think local farming families should be used as bargaining chips.

Thompson said her government will continue to closely monitor the impact this agreement may have on Ontario’s agriculture value chain as a whole.
