Barrel Racing finals at Reach Centre in Clinton

The National Barrel Horses Association is holding their finals at the Reach Centre in Clinton this weekend.

Ontario Director Lee Jackson said contestants from all over Ontario will compete for about $65,000 in prize money and awards.

Jackson said they expect to have close to 200 entries for Friday's events and the competition continues through Saturday and Sunday.

“We had 177 pre-entries in our open barrel class and 66 in our pole bending class and I was just up at the booth and they've got a few add-ons, so it could be close to 200 entries for today," he said.

The winners and awards presentations follow the competition on Sunday afternoon.

Jackson said Barrel Racing and Pole Bending have become very popular.

“It's getting very popular for people with horses," he said. "I'm finding a lot of people are coming out of pleasure classes and stuff like that because basically, you're running against a timer, you're not going after somebody's opinion on how your horse is moving and stuff, it's all timed and the clock doesn't lie.”

Competition starts Friday afternoon and continues through till Sunday and admission at the Reach Centre is free. More details and a schedule of events can be found on the Reach Centre website.
