New family doctors welcomed to the Clinton area

The Clinton Family Health Team officially welcomed two new doctors to the team this week.

Executive Director Kim Van Wyk says the addition of Dr. Candi Flynn and Dr. Trish Uniac leaves them one short of the full complement allowed by the Health Ministry.

Dr. Flynn was born and raised in the Clinton area and her husband is a farmer in the area.

"I loved growing up in the area and my husband is actually a farmer in the area so it certainly made it very easy to come back, so we can thank him," said Dr. Flynn.

Dr. Uniac is fairly new to the area but found a property she liked in the Walton area three years ago. She was commuting to Guelph at the time.

"I found a beautiful building about three years ago in Walton which I bought and was working in Guelph, which is a very far commute, so it was nice to be actually able to work near where I was living," she said.

Van Wyk said part of their success in recruiting physicians is they started the process very early and encourage medical students to come and work at the clinic to get them used to the clinic and the community and they also work closely with the Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance and their physician recruiter.

"We have a place for one more physician within our family health team and that will bring us up to seven doctors in total, so that is where, according to the ministry, the size of the community that we are we can up to seven doctors," said Van Wyk.
