Greater accessibility planned for historic Kimberley Hall

The historic Kimberley Hall is moving closer to a long-planned renovation.

Grey Highlands dignitaries joined Grey County Warden Stewart Halliday and local MPP Bill Walker Saturday to accept a capital grant of $55,000 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

That money will go toward the renovation project which will make the two-storey Kimberley Hall fully accessible. Along with the installation of an elevator, the project will involve making washrooms accessible, purchasing ramps and automated doors for the heritage building.

Construction drawings for the project are being completed, with tenders for work to be issued next month. Construction is to begin in January.

The funding announcement was also the start of Kimberley Sesquicentennial Celebrations.

"The Kimberley Hall is clearly the hub of this community," said Grey Highlands CAO Rob Adams. "With this generous support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the all will now be fully accessible and will provide greater access to residents for what we hope will be the next 150 years."
