UPDATE: Police continue investigation of shooting in Whitechurch

Updated at 3 p.m.

There were multiple police cruisers and drones in the Bruce County community of Whitechurch on Friday to investigate a shooting.

The OPP had a part of Whitechurch St. blocked off Amberley Road north to South Kinloss Avenue, but it has since reopened. That road had been closed since midnight after the OPP stopped a car.

The Special Investigation's Unit is now leading the investigation.

In a release, the SIU said that shortly after midnight, OPP stopped a vehicle on Whitechurch St.

At that time, a 30-year-old man got out of the vehicle and fled the scene, while the driver remained.

There was an eventual interaction between the 30-year-old man and an OPP officer, resulting in the officer discharging his firearm. The man was struck and taken to the hospital for treatment. The officer was also treated at a local hospital. According to the OPP, both the man and the officer suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Five investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to this incident. At this time, one subject officer from the OPP has been designated. Additionally, four witness officers from the OPP and one witness officer from Wingham Police Service have been designated.

According to the OPP, two men have been taken into custody but have not released names.
