Helicopter used in dramatic OPP arrest

A helicopter was used to assist the OPP in a dramatic arrest on Tuesday.

Shortly after 6 a.m., South Bruce and Huron County OPP were conducting a criminal investigation in the area of Concession Road 4 at Side Road 25 South near Teeswater. Uniform and Emergency Response Team officers were conducting containment measures when a vehicle entered the area driving in a dangerous manner.

At that time, OPP Aviation Services were called in to help ground officers take down the suspect vehicle. Units from South Bruce, Huron, Perth, Wellington and other neighbouring police services were receiving live updates from the aircrew.

As the vehicle travelled down Wellington Road 87 towards Harriston, it left the road and entered a cornfield to evade the helicopter. The suspects attempted to flee on foot through the cornfield into a wooded area, where OPP ground forces, including two canine units, tracked and arrested the male and female suspects near Harriston without further incident. The suspects have been transported to a local Operations Centre for further processing.

The investigation is still ongoing.
