The Saugeen Shores Lifesaving Society earned two first place finishes at the Provincial Waterfront Championships in Toronto earlier this month.
The Society earned first overall in the Junior category, ages 6 to 16 and in the Masters category, ages 25 and up. They were also third in the senior category, ages 16 and up.
"Many of our staff at Centennial Pool are involved with the SSLS," says, aquatic supervisor Shanna Reid in a release. "The club has a close partnership with the town, making it possible to offer our Lifesaving Fundamental Programs out of Centennial Pool and at our waterfront."
The Fundamentals program is run by Michael Hundt, the town's acting aquatic supervisor. The release says it offers coaching and lifesaving training and this summer alone saw 202 people participate. Not only does is it promote lifesaving training, it also develops strong athletes.
The town credits the program for the club's success including winning the National Pool Championships in 2015 and sweeping the All Club Championships in 2014.
