AMDSB Trustees Support Current Sex-Ed Curriculum Teaching

Members of the Avon Maitland District School Board held a special meeting Friday to show support for the position stated by the Ontario Public School Board's Association on sex education in public schools this fall.

Board Chair Randy Wagler explains the position of the association is that the current 2015 curriculum be taught until such time as a new curriculum is in place following the provincial government's proposed consultation process.

Trustees approved a motion confirming that support.

According to Wagler, "We anticipate some direction before the beginning of the school year, obviously it's in two and a half weeks, and this is really our indication that our hope is, for continuity's sake, it's what's currently in place, which is the 2015 curriculum."

Wagler says that motion will be communicated directly to the provincial association as well as their fellow chairs across the province and the Minister of Education.
