Suspicious Fire In West Perth

Perth County OPP say they are investigating a suspicious fire that occurred over the weekend.

It happened at 3pm, Saturday, when a motor vehicle was reported to be fully engulfed on Lane St. in West Perth.

West Perth firefighters attended to extinguish the blaze.

Concurrently, OPP members are investigating a recovered stolen motor vehicle, as well as a recovered stolen trailer and sailboat; both of which are believed to be related to the arson.

OPP Crime Unit members, Forensic Identification Services (FIS) members, and the Ontario Fire Marshall's Office are currently investigating.

"Acts of arson pose serious and unnecessary risks to public safety. Thankfully, the fire was contained to one area, and no injuries were sustained as a result. We are working to identify the person responsible and believe that the incident was a deliberate, one-time occurrence. Anyone with information is asked to call police immediately," says Detective Sergeant Todd Amlin, the area crime supervisor for Middlesex County OPP.
