ABCA Holding Information Sessions On Shoreline Management Plan

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority will be hosting two public information open houses in August regarding its proposed Shoreline Management Plan.

Water and Planning Manager Geoff Cade says the meetings will be on Saturday, August 11, in Thedford and on Saturday, August 18, in Zurich. Cade explains there will be two main presentations at each meeting. The first will be an update of the of the proposed Shoreline Management Plan by consultant Fionna Duckette and then Cade about shoreline development guidelines. That would include things like shoreline protection, but also additions to a house or cottage, including tearing down and rebuilding.

Cade says hope to have a draft Shoreline Management Plan back from Baird in September sometime and then it'll be before the board and the board will approve it to be released for public comment, not approving it, but just okaying it's release to the public. The open houses run from 9am to 12pm noon. The open house in Thedford is at the Legacy Recreation Centre Hall. The open house in Zurich is at the Zurich Arena.

“The public meetings that we're planning on having in August, there'll be two main presentations make. Fionna Duckett, of Baird, will come and provide an update. They've been asked to do the Shoreline Management Plan update so the nuts and bolts of the plan.”

“They're going to cover a number of different types of development activities, including the installation of shoreline protection, including additions to your house or cottage and including tearing down and rebuilding. It doesn't include things like replacing shingles and typical maintenance of your structure.”

“So we hope to have a draft Shoreline Management Plan back from Baird in September some time and then it'll be before the board and the board will approve it to be released for public comment, not approving it, but just okaying it's release to the public.”
