Local Lions Club Makes Donation To Pedestrian Bridge On South Huron Trail

A manager with the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority says they're closing in on their fundraising target for a pedestrian bridge along the South Huron Trail.

Manager of Stewardship, Land and Education Kate Monk say people using the trail currently have to walk on Morrison Line to get from one side of the river to the other and that involves some risk because Morrison Line is a very narrow township road and vehicular traffic crossing often exceeds the posted speed limit. Monk says the total cost of the bridge is about $290,000 and a recent donation of $15,000 from the Exeter Lions Club puts them over the $200,000 mark.

Monk says the municipality of South Huron and community members have contributed a significant amount of money towards the project. She adds they're in the middle of the tendering process now and hope to begin construction this fall. The bridge will be named the Jones Bridge to recognize the conservation efforts of Ted Jones, a long-time member of the Exeter Lions.
