The Municipality of Bluewater is moving forward with plans to address some of the problems with its sewer system.
Mayor Tyler Hessel explains a consultant's study has shown they have some significant leaks in their southern corridor as well as their own main infrastructure near the sewer plant and a few smaller areas.
Hessel says they still have more testing to do to identify problems around new construction areas that shouldn't be leaking at this point.
A consultant has estimated they could recover between 95 and 100 building lots if they can fix the problems, and that's critical because there has been a lot of pressure in Bluewater, particularly around Bayfield, for expansion. However, the municipality is limited by its sewer capacity.
The public works manager believes he can get a lot of the big projects done this summer and on budget. But Hessel says the estimate from a year ago looking at re-doing the infrastructure was around $5-million.
