South Huron Mayor Representing Rural Ontario

South Huron's mayor is representing rural Ontario on a national level.

Maureen Cole is on the board of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

She just got back from a conference in Halifax and said she believes the FCM can help municipalities access federal funding.

"I think it's a very strong voice," said Cole. "And the money they [federal government] have that's available, you know, the gas tax, those kinds of things and their whole philosophy is if you can strengthen the small communities, you strengthen Canada."

Cole says the FCM also recognizes the importance of things like infrastructure funding to small, rural municipalities.

"The highlight for me, of course, was being elected to the board.  So that's one of ten and the other people that are on from Ontario are from London, Strathroy and Collingwood, so being able to represent the rural is important to me," added Cole.
