Huron Shores Transit Project Gets Provincial Grant

Members of the Huron Shores Transit Steering Committee have been doing a little celebrating over the last couple of days.

Co-Chair Glen Baillie explains they just found out they have been successful in getting a grant from the Ministry of Transportation for $2-million over the next five years.

"We had the municipality of Lambton Shores lead the grant application through to the Ministry of Transportation on a five year, $2-million grant application and the municipality got notice and they passed it on to us that we, in fact, got the grant approved."

Baillie says the grant will give them the seed money to get the project started.

The first thing they plan to do is hire professional transportation experts to show them what can be done with the money they have available. He says they'll run it so that it's a break-even operation, with MTO covering any shortfalls, if there are any.

The transit system would include service to Middlesex and Lambton Shores, part of Perth and part of Huron County.
