Owen Sound Man Charged For Assaulting Peace Officer And Children

An incident at an Owen Sound home has lead to a list of charges against a man ranging from sexual assault to assault a peace officer, to assault with a weapon.

On Thursday, April 26, 2018, shortly before 6pm, the Owen Sound Police Service was called to the 600-block of 2nd Ave. E after a complaint was received that a man had just committed mischief inside a dwelling house.

It is alleged that the man left the residence and again committed mischief to the exterior of the residence and left the area by foot.

The man then encountered two children who were outside, and it is alleged that he briefly stopped and committed a sexual assault on one of the children, and then assaulted the other child.

The accused was located a short distance away, at which time he was placed under arrest. There were no physical injuries reported.

During an appearance this morning, while the accused was being interviewed at the courthouse, he suddenly jumped up and lunged at a court officer pushing him backward.

The accused then attempted to stab the officer with a pen. After a physical struggle, the accused was restrained and returned to his cell.

He has been charged with the following offences: Mischief over $5,000 Sexual assault Sexual interference Assault Assault peace officer Assault with a weapon Two counts of breaching a probation order

The Owen Sound Police cannot release the name or age of the accused to protect the identity of the children and their family. The male is in custody and currently poses no risk to the public.
