Budget Discussions Continue In North Huron

An overall levy increase of 17.8% could be on the way for the Wingham Ward of North Huron if council passes a proposed budget.

New figures show Wingham's decision to keep their local police service will show up almost immediately and could get even more expensive next year.

North Huron staff was able to trim the original 14.49% spending increase to 4.95%, but a revised budget adopted by the Wingham Police Board added $424,170, an additional 8.67% on the levy for the Wingham Ward for only part of this year.

Overall, this would result in a levy increase of 17.82%, which is $871,639 in additional spending.

North Huron anticipates passing their budget at the next regular council meeting on May 7.
