More Than 300 Attend Doug Ford Rally In Mildmay

Supporters jammed the Mildmay-Carrick Recreation Complex Thursday evening to hear from the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario.

Doug Ford spoke to the crowd of more than 300 people, once again taking aim at the compensation of Hydro One executives.

Ford repeated his promise to fire CEO Mayo Schmidt and the board of directors if elected on June 7, claiming the board made a secret deal to double Schmidt's severance package if he is fired.

"People are coming up to me with their hydro bills saying, 'I can't afford it, I can't afford my rent, I can't afford hydro,'" said Ford. "When people are hurting out there, the arrogant cockiness of the CEO in giving himself a $1.7-million bonus, that's unacceptable."

Ford says if he's elected, he will hire an independent auditor to examine the provincial finances, guaranteeing money will be found.

"We're going to drive efficiencies, I don't believe in the word 'cuts', I do not believe in that, I believe in efficiencies," says Ford. "We're going to find four-cents on every single dollar, every single dollar that the government spends."

Ford also reiterated his pledge to cut Ontario's corporate tax rate by one-percent, adding he's confident small business owners will reinvest the savings in people and capital.

Prior to the rally in Mildmay, Ford was given a tour of the Bruce Power site, and made a brief stop at a farm near Teeswater.
