Port Elgin and Southampton Workshops Discuss Age Friendly Communities

The Council on Aging Grey Bruce wants more "age-friendly communities" in the two counties.

The council is hosting two workshops in Saugeen Shores this month to explain the age-friendly concept to seniors, older adults, senior’s advocates, and providers of senior’s programs.

One of the goals of the COA is to provide older adults with a platform to make their collective voice heard at the municipal, county, and provincial levels.

The free workshops are scheduled for The Plex in Port Elgin on Wednesday, April 18 from 1pm-2:30pm; and at the Chantry Centre in Southampton the following Wednesday, April 25 from 10:30-noon.

From those workshops, the council will compile a list of residents interested in forming a local advisory committee.

The COA has been active in Bruce and Grey counties since late 2014, forming five regional community advisory committees representing East Grey, West Grey, North Bruce, South Bruce and Owen Sound.

The council wants to set up local advisory committees in each of the 17 municipalities in Grey-Bruce.
