Nurses Contract Ratified In Huron County

The chair of the Huron County Health Board had some good news for county council this week.

Tyler Hessel was able to inform council that a new contract with their nurses had been ratified. The contract is for two years with a 3% wage increase over the two years. Hessel explained they're trying to cap all of their contract renewals at two years to coincide with the possible amalgamation of the Huron and Perth Health Unit. Hessel also announced the ministry has agreed to the extension of the contract of Dr. Maarten Bokhout as Huron's medical officer of health.

Hessel pointed out they had originally asked for an extension until this spring but the Ministry said they would renew it until the end of October and then beyond that if it was required.

“The Huron County Health Board and Huron County as a whole, because they are employees of Huron County, have signed a contract with the Ontario Nurses Association, for renewal, so we're pretty pleased about that," he says. “With Dr. Bokhout, right now, we originally only asked for an extension for the spring. The ministry has advised us that they'll extend his contract right up until the end of October and renewable if need be.”
