Hospice Care Avon Maitland has announced its new executive director.
Katherine Hewitt will be responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring the model of care at the hospice sites in Stratford and in Clinton.
The Huron Residental Hospice is scheduled to open in March of 2018 and the Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice plans to break ground for their new facility at the same time. The new beds in both facilities are expected to serve up to 100 individuals and their families each year. Hewitt says she looks forward to working towards the official opening of both facilities, to better serve the palliative care needs of our region.
Funding for the first year of her position has been provided by St. Elizabeth Health Care, which has provided millions of dollars to support the hospice care movement and improve access to end-of-life care across Canada.
