Local Snowmobile Trails Not Open Yet

Sledders in the region will have to wait before they can hit the snowmobile trails in District 9.

The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs is reminding people that despite the early snow and cold temperatures, the routes are not ready.

Local club volunteers have been unable to build the trail base because wet areas are not completely frozen over yet.

Pre-grooming is underway but doesn't mean the trails are open.

Riders could run into hazards, destroy the base and damage the ground if they try to use the trails.

Over 2,000 km of the local trail cross private land, and some farmers still have fencing up.

Riding on closed trails could result in land use privileges being revoked.

Snowmobilers anxious to get out there can call their local club and volunteer to help get the trails ready.

Anyone using closed trails could face charges.
