Huron OPP Conduct Truck Safety Blitz

The OPP and MTO joined forces to inspect the safety of commercial vehicles in Wingham.

Wednesday's initiative is part of a province-wide "Operation Safe Trucking" campaign.

Trained officers completed 30 inspections, 20 of them on tractor trailers.

Most involved a full mechanical examination, along with inspections of load security, dangerous goods, and documentation checks.

Nine charges were laid, along with eight warnings. And one tractor-trailer was pulled off the road due to safety issues.

The OPP led initiative is focusing on commercial vehicles to reduce the number of collisions.

From January 1 to December 8, 2017, the OPP has responded to 6,252 transport truck related collisions. OPP say a total of 87 lives were lost in 72 of those collisions.
