Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Reeve Ben Van Deipenbeek says they're looking a few options to address the arsenic problem in the well in Dungannon.
Van Deipenbeek points out arsenic occurs naturally in the rock but the Ministry recently changed the acceptable amount of arsenic from 25 parts per million to ten parts per million. Van Deipenbeek says arsenic in the Dungannon well is currently running at around eight to eleven per cent so obviously that's an issue.
A couple of possible solutions under consideration are increased filtration or re-locating the well.
“The Ministry took it upon themselves to lower the standard from 25 parts per million to ten parts per million and the Dungannon well is just running at around that eight to eleven per cent so that's an issue.”
