Brussels Barn Attracting Plenty Of Interest

The economic development officer for Huron East says one property owner had the perfect answer to revitalize downtown Brussels -- he built a big barn there.

Owner Brian Morton has been planning the barn for about three years and it's expected to be completed by March.

Economic Development Officer Jan Hawley says the barn, just off the main street, will make Brussels a destination. She says it's a unique, multi-functional facility that will host weddings and corporate events in the loft, with a farmers market on the main floor and retail space in other areas of the barn.

Hawley notes they already have 15 weddings booked for 2018 and she's confident it will mean other businesses in the barn and in the downtown area.

She also says the timing is perfect because the municipality has just approved a Community Improvement Program for property owners to spruce up their facades.
