Some Improvements Underway At Kincardine Hospital

Infrastructure renewal work is underway at the Kincardine site of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre.

The centre received a $3-million Exceptional Circumstances Grant from the province for essential equipment to ensure patient and staff comfort.

That includes replacing boilers and chillers, as the building's major electrical, mechanical and architectural systems are near the end of their life cycle.

The facility is about 60 years old, with some parts up to 100 years old

The province cancelled a plan to redevelop the ageing facility in 2011, and work has continued ever since to get some improvements funding.

In July 2016, the health Centre submitted a capital request to the province to address much-needed infrastructure improvements. That includes renovations to expand and enhance the emergency department, laboratory, registration and waiting areas.

Approval of that is still pending.

“We have had to explore many avenues to get to where we are today, and it’s very satisfying to see improvements being made, “says Paul Rosebush, president and CEO. “We still have a significant amount of work to do, but we are committed to ensuring that the Kincardine hospital is redeveloped to meet the needs of our patients and staff for years to come.”
