OPP Investigate Ultralight Plane Crash

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the crash of an ultralight plane in Tiny Twp.

OPP for southern Georgian Bay say the incident happened shortly after 6pm Sunday at a private airstrip on Mertz Corner Rd and Baseline Rd.    Officers arrived at the location to find that an ultralight plane had somehow ended up in an adjacent cornfield.

The pilot, who is in his 50s, had been attempting to land on the airstrip, but it is not yet determined how the plane landed in the cornfield.    He was taken with serious injuries to a nearby hospital and was expected to be moved to a Toronto hospital once he became stable.

The Tiny Township Fire Department and Georgian Bay Ambulance Service also attended the scene.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada was sending an investigator to the scene.
