The deceased has been identified as 61-year-old Zbignien Baczkowski of Cambridge.
A post mortem has been scheduled for later on Tuesday.
Provincial police were notified around 11am Monday morning that there was an unoccupied boat on Puslinch Lake, across from the McClintock Marina.
The OPP and Cambridge Fire Department responded and secured the boat.
Individuals from the marina spotted the body not far from the boat.
Alan Smith will begin his new role with the municipality on July 20.
