Two Charged After Rash Of Vehicle Break-Ins

Two people have been charged after a number of overnight vehicle break-ins in Owen Sound.

The Owen Sound Police Service says sometime late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, thieves broke into five vehicles along the 500 to 600 blocks of 4th Ave. E, and the 900 1800 blocks of 4th Ave. W.

Small amounts of change, a GPS and personal identification were reported stolen from some of the vehicles.

One of the victims later received cell phone alerts of his stolen bank card being used at various locations in Owen Sound.  The victim notified police, who obtained security footage and arrested a female suspect on Thursday.

A 22-year-old Owen Sound woman is now charged with possession of stolen property and two counts of unauthorized use of a credit card.  She is scheduled to appear in court on September 21.

Another suspect was later identified and a 26-year-old London man was arrested. He is charged with theft under $5,000, theft of a credit card, four counts of possession of stolen property, failing to comply with probation and failing to comply with recognizance of bail. He has been remanded in custody and will appear in court on Friday.

Police were able to recover the stolen GPS and the majority of stolen identification.
