Huron County Food Summit Planned For October

The South Huron Chamber of Commerce is launching a new project aimed at helping people involved in agriculture and food production work together.

Executive Director Joan Brady explains agriculture and food production are pillars of the Huron County economy and creating a Huron Food and Beverage Industry Round Table will help those involved in the industry get to know each other and share ideas that will benefit everyone.

Brady explains they want to get everyone involved in the production, promotion and distribution to help build the sector for the benefit of everyone.

They are planning an all-day food summit on October 10 at the Barn on the Exeter Golf Course. From the people who attend that event, they hope to create a steering committee to move the project forward.

"Especially in food and beverage, the place where it is being produced is part of the conversation and it's part of the promotion and so how can we work together to do promotion, distribution and build the sector for the benefit of all," says Brady. "Agriculture and food production - whether its processing or primary production - it's one of the pillars of the Huron County economy so it just makes sense to empower some of these small businesses to help them grow and impact that local economy."
