The demolition of the old Zellers store on the Sunset Strip in Georgian Bluffs will make way for a new and expanded Foodland.
Owner Bill Graham says they will open a 34,000 sq ft store by the spring of 2018. He says the current location is 29,000 sq ft and the aging building no longer suits their needs.
Graham says the new store will have an enlarged fresh foods section and a seating area for those who want to stop to enjoy a meal purchased in the store.
Fresh offerings will make up about 60% to 70% of the business. The dry grocery, frozen and dairy sections will also expand.
The staff will increase from 100 to about 160 workers.
