Maitland Trail Association Prepares For El Camino

Registrations are now being accepted for the Maitland Trail Association's annual El Camino hike on the weekend of September 23 and 24.

The challenging hike covers 49 km over two days and runs the length of the Maitland Trail.

Association board member Erinn Lawrie says hikers will cover 29 km on the first day and 20 km on the second day.

For people who like to hike but don't want to try the full 49 km, Lawrie says they have hikes of 11 km and 16 km on Saturday and a 13 km hike on Sunday.

Hikers can register and get more information about the hike by going to the Maitland Trail Association website.  The deadline for registrations is September 15.

They are expecting over 200 hikers.

According to Lawrie, " It's pretty challenging and the terrain isn't the typical flat farmland that you might think about, there's actually a 1,500 metre elevation change over the course of the trail."
