The municipality of Huron East is selling off two pieces of surplus property in the Grey Ward.
CAO Brad Knight explains the Moncrieff Community Hall sits on half an acre of land and is seldom used anymore, and the former Moncrieff Ball Park is three acres. Knight says there hasn't been a ball game on the diamond in 30 or 40 years.
"We have a committee that's looked after the town hall for years and it's not been used that much and they talked to council about it so we have declared them surplus and we intend to sell both properties," says Knight.
He says they've had the land appraised so they have an idea of what they should get for the properties, but they're being sold by a request for proposals, so they'll wait and see what offers they get.
"We are selling these through a request for proposal we do have packages ready for people that are interested and part of the process is we'd like them to outline what they'd use the properties for and that'll be taken into consideration with the offer," says Knight.
The municipality will also be asking potential buyers what they would do with the land, and they will be part of deciding who the municipality sells to.
Huron East is hosting an Open House on Saturday, August 26 from 9am to 11am.
