Bayfield Arena Part Of Recreational Feasibility Study

A motion to permanently remove the ice from the Bayfield Arena next spring is expected to be ratified by Bluewater council next week.

Mayor Tyler Hessel says the motion has been approved by all of council, with the exception of Bayfield ward councillor Bill Whetstone. It needs ratification at a meeting August 21.

Hessel points out the Municipality of Bluewater has three arenas and the demand isn't there to support all three.

Bluewater council will start a public consultation process for a recreational plan for the entire municipality. Hessel says some preliminary ideas for the Bayfield arena floor include using it as a hall for large weddings, or using it as a gymnasium.

"The reason we're doing the recreational feasibility study is we are going to be talking to different groups in the entire community, but Bayfield is of course a part of that and then we will hopefully come up with that could be a plan for something that is both service recreational needs for everyone in the community," stated Hessel.
