The new accessible doors on the entrance to the Harriston-Minto Community Centre were unveiled Thursday morning in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Minto Mayor George Bridge says without the help of the Trillium grant of $15,000, the project wouldn't have happened, and he says it was a project that was necessary to aid the community.
"This makes this facility totally accessible which we're really excited about because it gets well used, and we have a lot of seniors come into the building, and people with mobility issues, and they can now go up the ramp here, watch the hockey, do all that and be independent doing it. That's so important," he says.
Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece was also in attendance, alongside Wayne White of the Trillium Foundation and members of town staff. Pettapiece says it's great to have Trillium able to help municipalities out with improving their communities.
"As Mayor Bridge said, they've been pushing this back a bit because they've been short of funds because of cutbacks from the province," says Pettapiece. "So, when this organization, the Trillium Foundation, comes along and approves these grants, it juts helps get the needed dollars to get these things done."
