The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is telling the story of Canada and its nature at Huron County libraries this summer.
Conservation Educator Denise Iszczuk says as part of Canada's 150th birthday they're celebrating Canada's natural assets with school-age children at various libraries in Huron County.
The one-hour presentations include discussions about the trees and plants native to Canada, animals, and the role the beaver played in Canada's history and the importance of Canada's water resources.
Iszczuk says the presentation ends with a craft workshop that includes creating a maple leaf that can be stuck to a window to prevent birds from flying into it.
Ausable Bayfield Conservation hosted the Our Nature, Our Canada program at Clinton and Zurich libraries on July 18.
Conservation educators continue the program at the Seaforth library on Tuesday, August 8, at 2pm at the libraries in Bayfield and Goderich on Thursday, August 10 (Goderich at 11:30 a.m. and Bayfield at 2 p.m.), and at the Hensall Library on Tuesday, August 15 at 2pm.
The Our Nature, Our Canada program is for ages 5 to 12 and registration is required.
"It's part of the TD Canada Summer Reading program," explains Iszczuk, "so what I've done is taken the theme that they have, which happens to be about Canada as well and we've taken the theme to include nature."
"Water is a natural resource so all the treasures Canada has to offer we try to highlight just a few and we end with a craft that has to do with a maple leaf and sticking it to your window to deter birds from flying into your windows."
