Hwy. 6 Construction Completed

The parliamentary assistant to the minister of transportation marked the completion of upgrades to Hwy. 6 at a stop in Mount Forest on Friday.

Daiene Vernile says drivers in Grey County will now benefit from the surface and drainage improvements to a 12 km stretch from Mount Forest to Grey Rd. 9 in Southgate and West Grey.

Cox Construction began the work in July for $7.8-million.

That section of Hwy. 6 sees an average of 6,200 vehicles a day.

“Over the last decade, Ontario has been improving Hwy. 6 in Wellington, Grey, and Bruce counties in an effort to build a safe and efficient transportation network – one that is crucial to prosperity and quality of life. With this newly completed section north of Mount Forest, our work of making travel easier for families and businesses is nearly done. We remain committed to keeping this important corridor in good condition so Ontario drivers and goods can get to their destinations safely and smoothly," says Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca.

“The completion of these improvements to this section of Hwy. 6 marks a smoother drive for people who live here and those who travel through the area. We’re making the investments needed to allow more seamless transportation right across the province,” says Daiene Vernille, parliamentary assistant to the minister.
