Shore Road Beach Drowning Victim Identified

Bruce Peninsula OPP have released the name of a Toronto man who drowned at Sauble Beach.

On Saturday at around 4:35pm, Bruce Peninsula OPP responded to a call of a possible drowning at Shore Road Beach located on the Saugeen First Nation side of Sauble Beach.

Witnesses say a man was paddle boarding when he fell in the water and was separated from his board, and appeared in distress. He was not wearing a life jacket.

Witnesses entered the water to try and assist him, but they lost sight of the man.

The OPP were on scene when the man's body was pulled from the water with no vital signs. Life-saving efforts were attempted, but the man was pronounced dead one the way to hospital.

The man has been identified as 39-year-old Dennis Bowman of Toronto.  An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday.

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
