Huron County Joins London For Waste Management Projects

Huron County has agreed to participate in two waste management projects with the City of London.

County Engineer Steve Lund explains the city invited several neighbouring counties, including Huron, to participate in a project that would involve London expanding its landfill capabilities to include waste from neighbouring counties in the future.

The second project would be further into the future and involve looking at alternative technologies to landfill sites for disposing of waste.

Lund says there is no commitment or cost involved with considering using London landfill sites, so it makes sense to keep the option available.

He says if the county decides in the future to be part of the study to look at alternatives to landfills there would be a cost at that time.

Lund points out some municipalities in Huron County still have have several years of landfill capacity while others not so much but the situation is not critical at this point.
