Huron County To Benefit From Mississauga Job Fair

Members of Huron County's Economic Development team recently attended a job fair in Mississauga, hosted by the Peel Newcomers Centre.

The job fair was specifically for immigrants now living in the Greater Toronto Area, but with an interest in moving to a rural community.   An estimated 500 people attended.

The Huron County team returned home with about 100 resumes from people who were interested in learning more about Huron County.

Economic Development officer Chris Watson says many of the immigrants originally came from rural communities and are anxious to get away from a large urban centre.

Watson adds they found people with skills that line up fairly well with some of the skills Huron County employers are looking for.   He adds the next step is to find partner employers who are interested in hiring newcomers.
