Bruce Power has made a $75,000 donation to Huron Shores Hospice.
The money will go toward Phase 1 of their project, which is to open a one bed hospice in the Tiverton Park Manor. Huron Shores Hospice aims to open a centre for excellence in hospice palliative care in southern Bruce County, according to chair of the committee, Cheryl Cottrill.
Phase 2 will involve the opening of a three bed, stand-alone residential hospice facility in 2019-2020, depending on funding from the Southwest LHIN and fundraising. Phase 3, to come in 2021, would incorporate a day-wellness, respite care, and online networks that allow patients and caregivers to ask for help from the community and acute illness care planning.
“The core values that will guide our decisions and actions while providing hospice palliative care are compassion, dignity, collaboration, accountability, excellence, and respect for diversity,” Cottrill says.
Bruce Power President and CEO Mike Rencheck says they feel it's important to donate towards residential hospice care, given the aging population in the area.
“By matching a 2016 donation to the Owen Sound hospice project, Bruce Power is extending its commitment to the people of Grey and Bruce counties, whose families may be impacted by these compassionate organizations during a difficult time in their life," says Rencheck.
