Pettapiece Says Hydro Rate Plan Means Long-Term Pain

Perth Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece says a leaked cabinet document shows the Liberal government's Fair Hydro Plan will see rates slowly increase next year, and spike by 2022.

The confidential document presented to Liberal cabinet members in March shows rates would double by the year 2030.

Pettapiece says the legislation to give customers a break on skyrocketing bills, will only keep them in check until after the next election.

“It’s designed to get the Liberals through the next election,” he says. “It’s supposed to provide short-term political gain for the Liberals, in exchange for long-term pain for the rest of us.”

But Pettapiece believes his constituents will see right through it

“People know exactly who is responsible for the mess we’re in," he says.

He adds the controversial debt retirement charge will also be back to pay off the debt created by the plan to keep rates down for the short term.
