Rolls-Royce Opens Office In Port Elgin

Bruce Power has signed a multi-year agreement with the nuclear services arm of Rolls-Royce to help with data analytics.

The agreement will see Rolls-Royce lend its digital technology called T-104 to Bruce Power, which will provide asset management data as the company enters refurbishment of six of its nuclear reactors.

President and CEO Mike Rencheck explains the technology will allow Bruce Power to improve inventory management of parts and equipment, as well as provide real-time information on how those parts are performing within Bruce Power's stations.

"We'll be able to analyze and optimize how our parts are used, how we're ordering parts and how they're actually performing in the station," says Rencheck.

Rob Fletcher, the president of nuclear services and projects for Rolls-Royce, says the analytics technology originated in their jet engine business and is now part of their nuclear offerings.

"We've got a lot of data and expertise in the nuclear business, as well, so we combine the two and we can actually bring a lot of innovation and services to make sure Bruce [Power] runs efficiently, but also reliability gets increased, as well," says Fletcher.

Rolls-Royce will be opening an office in Port Elgin as part of the arrangement, and Fletcher says they could hire as many as 15 people once they get settled in, adding they plan to hire locally.
