WOAA Seeking Photos To Help Celebrate 75th Anniversary

The WOAA is celebrating its 75th anniversary this summer.

The organization is hosting a diamond jubilee gala on July 22nd in Goderich, and as part of the festivities, the WOAA is asking for photos of South Bruce and the surrounding area depicting historic Ontario provincial sports championships in OMHA hockey and OASA softball. John Thompson of the WOAA says they have some already, but they’re looking for any good photos from any era.

“We’ve got some pictures, it would great to get more, especially of any teams that went on to win Ontario championships, either in minor hockey or softball. Even other pictures, vintage pictures from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.”

Thompson says anyone with photos, either hard copy or scanned to email, should submit them to Linda Espensen at the WOAA office in Wingham at 519-357- 3512 or by email through the website www.woaa.on.ca. He also says the finished program won’t only be in paper form.

“We hope to have the entire printed program online on our website following the 75th anniversary. It will be available to the general public as well that way. Not quite sure how that will work but we’ve talked to our website people, and I think having that as a link on the site is a distinct possibility.”

Other notable events happening for the WOAA 75th anniversary is an already sold out celebrity golf tournament, and the jubilee dinner will be hosted by Neil Aitchison, and the keynote speaker for the evening is NHL alumnus Dennis Hull.

Tickets for the dinner at the Goderich Knights of Columbus Centre are $50 per person and they are selling quickly. It is expected to be a sell-out.
