There were two main reasons for the success of Sunday's Hike for Hospice at the Varna Nature Trails.
The first was the kickoff of National Hospice Palliative Care Week; and the second was the ceremonial ribbon cutting to mark the start of the capital campaign for Huron Residential Hospice: Moments Matter.
The campaign will help create a four-bed residential hospice in Central Huron. It will also bring all existing services under one roof as well as providing families another option for end-of-life care.
Participants gathered over $20,000 in pledges for the hike, more than the annual hike has ever raised in Huron.
The fundraising total-to-date is over $300,000 of the $2-million goal for the Moments Matter capital campaign.
The Chair of Campaign for Huron Residential Hospice, Gwen Devereaux, was thrilled.
"We are amazed with the support we have received before the Moments Matter - $2-Million Campaign was launched with over $300,000 committed before today. This is just how the people in Huron County give - from their heart, and we could not be more appreciative of their support."
